12/7/25 Road to Trail workshop
A practical workshop in the heart of the south Downs National Park for any runner looking to step onto the trails for the first time.
Through a mixture of classroom based activities and practical time out on the trail, gain skills and experience to help you feel confident:

Choosing and finding your way on off-road routes

Selecting and carrying the right kit to enjoy your run and be safe

Moving effectively off-road; up and downhill, on mud, rock and grass
The south of England is blessed with miles of beautiful, varied, undulating trails and plenty of trail races to choose from. It can also be an effective training ground for races in the wilder areas of the UK such as Wales, the Lakes, The Moors and the Peaks. Perhaps you want to compete in your first ultra and that means moving over to the trail, alternatively you may wish to start running off-road so as to feel a little closer to nature whilst exercising or possibly you have seen a particular trail event which has sparked your imagination. Whatever the reason, this half day workshop will equip you to begin this journey feeling confident and excited about the wonderful opportunities trail running presents.
The location
Southease YHA is in the heart of the South Downs National Park. There is on-site parking available and good road links. Alternatively, Southease train station is just down the road. Accommodation can be booked separately to the course and there is an on-site café open daily. See the YHA website for further details.

10/5/25 Preparing for your first long ultra workshop
A practical morning workshop in the heart of the South Downs National Park for any runner considering or preparing for their first race which will take them through the night essentially covering everything I wish I had known before attempting my first 100 miler...
Through a mixture of classroom based activities and practical time out on the trail, gain skills and experience to help you feel confident:

Understanding required kit and making it work for you

Planning and managing a strategy to move through the night

Managing your feet so they don’t let you down

Getting your head around the big numbers; miles to run and hours on feet

Dealing with unforeseen problems so they don’t end your race early

Running with (or without) crew
There are plenty of long ultra races in the south of England but it can also be an effective training ground for races in the wilder areas of the UK such as Wales, the Lakes, The Moors and the Peaks. If your imagination has been sparked by the thought of a long ultra or a multi-day event or you are currently training for one, this half day workshop will enable you to feel confident and excited to take on that challenge knowing you are well prepared.

All you need is a headtorch, trail shoes and good vibes for an hour run off road around Stamner Park at a sociable pace. Contact to confirm attendance prior to event.
